E3M Member Case Study: LEYF

Date: 19.01.16 |Categories: Film

June O'Sullivan, CEO of LEYF, tells us about the organisation's unique approach to early years childcare across London

London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) looks after 3,500 children in 37 nurseries across London, and that number is growing.

While the organisation still has charitable status, it became a social business in order to move away from a sole focus on grant dependency and build a business that trades in the ‘market place’, i.e. directly with the parents and communities it serves.

LEYF proudly uses a ‘Robin Hood’ model which allows the business to support a large number of children (with subsidised nursery places) using the profits from nurseries operating in wealthier communities.
